Shiatsu is a very old, and very traditional form of massage. It is usually performed on the floor on a mat. I work with a less traditional form by working with clients on the massage table. I follow the traditional form of finger pressure along the meridian lines and points to affect change in the body. Shiatsu is sedative, and uses compression as a tool to relax the muscle tissue. Shiatsu utilizes many forms of stretching and passive joint mobility work to help hydrate joint structures. Shiatsu is also performed over clothes, and can be a great tool for those who struggle with dressing down for a session. It is also a great modality to help with body conscious clients who have some fear of the massage room.
